In November of 2009, Core Strengths led a group of 6 women to Nicaragua as a personal retreat and to do some community development work. The village where we stayed, Jiquilillo, is a relatively remote area with families living in quite isolated and rustic surroundings. Recently, another group of volunteers has worked with the local people to build a community health centre.
There is no prenatal care available to the women in Jiquilillo and neighbouring villages, and often new mothers have little information and few resources in preparation for motherhood. We have decided to return again November 2010, with resources for pre/postnatal care as well as items for infant care and development.
One of the resources that would be extremely valuable to these new moms is cloth diapers. Not only will this be a practical item for families, it is also a way to contribute to keeping the country beautiful and eco-friendly!
It is estimated that the community health centre will be able to support 100 new mothers a year, and we are setting a goal of purchasing 500 diapers to donate to the health centre.
Please consider assisting with this project by purchasing diapers directly from this site.
Purchase a Core Strengths Gift Certificate from EcoBaby Canada to donate cloth diapers to the Nicaragua project. A $20Cad donation will send 2 packages of diapers to Nicaragua. Each package includes: One-Size Cover, 1 One-Size unbleached cotton prefold.
Many thanks to you and EcoBaby Canada for supporting moms and babes in Nicaragua!
